18 Months – 3 Years Old
Children between the ages of 18 months to 3 years old participate in a multi-age family like group setting. As acute observers, children in a multi-age setting learn from and help each other up the ladder of development. Children at this age are mastering walking, language, feeding themselves, toilet training, gross and fine motor skills, social interaction and more.
Filled with perfectly sized furniture for little bodies and perfectly sized manipulatives for little hands, the toddler prepared environment is where your child will continue to explore their world by walking, talking, learning and growing- each new phase more incredible than the last. Through movement and handling of work materials, the child absorbs and learns from his environment. Parents are often impressed with how at home their child is in the St. Martin’s Toddler room prepared environment.
With a ratio of 1 adult to every 5 children, Toddler room children are lovingly cared for by Montessori trained and certified professionals. Each of our patient and caring teachers are always observing what stage your child is progressing at and recognizing when to introduce the next appropriate Montessori activity.
Curriculum Areas of Focus
Movement Area: the toddler is given the freedom to select his own work according to his preferences and to follow his own inner voice that guides his development. He works constantly following his instincts to do things independently.
Practical Life Area: Through handling everyday materials, the child learns to put the world around themselves into an orderly context. Guided by patient and loving teachers who know when to introduce a new activity and when to let the child continue exploring an existing one, your child will be surrounded by an environment that makes sense.
Language Area: Developing Language is one of the most important parts of your toddler’s development. The environment your child is in plays a big role in how well their language develops. St. Martin’s School has a focused language area where a quiet and orderly understanding of symbolic, phonetic and representative language becomes more fully crystallized. Toddlers are not pushed or forced to learn language, but encouraged by loving and caring staff to absorb language from the environment and begin expressing themselves.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a guided spiritual path offered to all children at St. Martin’s School. Helping students to grasp the Biblical timeline and Scriptural concepts lays the foundation for a deeper understanding of God as the child grows. The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd was established by Montessori teachers over 5 decades ago and is based on Montessori teaching methodology.
At its core, the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd upholds that every individual child comes to know God in their own unique way.
Our role at St. Martin’s School is to provide the place and opportunity for informative spiritual awakening by Guiding Mind and Spirit. Learn more in-depth information.
